Banksy Strikes Again

The notorious graffiti artist (or 'hoodlum, who does he think he is?' depending on your viewpoint) has been up to his old tricks in central London, daubing a wall with the provocative slogan ‘If graffiti changed anything – it would be illegal’. The mantra (itself a subtle reworking of the old anarchist credo ‘If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal’) is displayed on a cracked white wall in the elegant environs of Fitzrovia, not far from the BT Tower, and features Banksy’s long-time calling card, a stencilled rat. Some Banksy aficionados have suggested the work is related to a number of high profile graffiti artists such as Invader and Revok being arrested in Los Angeles. Of course, how long the artwork is on view remains to be seen. Banksy’s last seditionary act in Fitzrovia – One Nation Under CCTV – was removed by Westminster Council, which also controls this part of London, after it stated the work shouldn’t have been erected without planning permission. Banksy’s rat can be found on the corner of Cleveland Street and Clipstone Street – have a peek while you can.

iPhone+Turntable For The Vintage Techie

The Turntable iPhone Dock combines two objects emblematic of their times to create harmony between past and present. Technology is often blamed for our disconnect with society but technologies were not created to isolate. The problem is products generally aren’t designed to create continuity. This turntable not only plays your old LP’s but also encodes them into MP3′s sent straight to your charging iPhone. Modern tech has also made possible for a small amp and sound bar down front for room filling sound. Very nice execution.

Free Beer Is Art

There is an exhibition currently running in Berlin that consists of 72.000 bottles of beer which are to be consumed and smashed in order to complete the art installation which runs until May 22. Isn't that a good excuse to be a part of art?

The installation is  by Cyprien Gaillard and it runs at KW. Head over to the links for the details.

CAM (Common Awkward Moment) Warnings!

As Cracked points it out these are awkward times that more or less many of us have been into! It would be very good if we had warnings on them wouldn't it?

Website As Art Collections?

2006_rr_tattoo_sunset2

This is what Rafaël Rozendaal has been doing and doing it very well for the past few years. He has been working as a web designer who also sells his work as art installations. As he puts it:

"Makes websites as art pieces, pieces are sold with domain name,

work remains public, name of collector in title bar.

Collectors in FranceUKSpainNL and Austria.

Lived in Amsterdam, Rio, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Portland and Berlin.
Lives and works in hotels.

Born 1980 in Amsterdam.
Father Arie Rozendaal from the Netherlands.
Mother Heloisa Castello Branco from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Great grandfather Humberto Castello Branco, former president of Brazil."

And also as Roger Ebert puts it: “Stop consuming time with aimless surfing.

His websites will waste all the time you could possibly require.”

Head over to his portfolio to admire and why not hire!

Time Visualized On A Watch

ZIIRO-Aurora_Orbit.jpg

ZIIIRO has come up with yet another way to represent time in a circle, as in the tried-and-true analog clock design, with their second pair of watches, the "Aurora" and the "Orbit":

What we are experimenting on Aurora is to reduce both swirls into a single element without taking away any functionality from the watch. Hour indicator which is on the bottom layer uses a 100% to 0% blue gradient and the Minute indicator uses a 100% to 0% yellow gradient. Overlapping both layers create a color mixing result thus producing an ever changing clock face color! It allows the user to learn a new way of interpreting time by understanding mixture of different colors.

The Orbit is inspired by space and solar system. We want to build ZIIIRO as the 'Solar system of time' and therefore the hour and minute orbits around the parent star ZIIIRO. Colored orb represents the Hour and white orb shows the minute on Orbit. And most importantly, all these models are interchangeable with each other! All the watches in the rubber bracelet series: Gravity, Aurora and Orbit.

In particular, the "Aurora" (above), which represents chronos as chroma—i.e. time as a color gradient—is an interesting way to express the cyclic nature of temporality.
